Playoff Preview
(3) Kitchener vs. (6) Sarnia

Series Synopsis:

March 21st, 2007

For only the second time in the history of these two OHL franchises, the Sting and Rangers meet in the post-season.  In 1981, the Rangers encountered the then QJMHL champion: Cornwall Royals, and then exactly 10 years ago the Rangers defeated the Sting in 7 games, during the second round of the post-season.  The Rangers held a 3-1 lead but let the Sting sneak back into the series.  Sarnia even led game 7 by an early 2-0 score before the Rangers claimed the series with a 7-3 victory.  That was in the second round, and since the Sting haven't been through the first round since, infact that 1997 series was the only time that the Sting have ventured into the second round.

Sting head coach Dave McQueen and Rangers' head coach Peter DeBoer have had two playoff encounters in 2001, the Plymouth Whalers upset the regular season champion Erie Otters, and then in 2005, the Rangers trailed 2-0 to McQueen's Otters before taking the series in 6 games.

The Rangers appear to have the edge in goal.  John Murray has not allowed himself to be victimized by many poor goals against the Sting, while VanBuskirk has had his share of lapses in the season series.  Though the Rangers backup netminder: Charles Lavigne lacks in experience, he would appear to be ahead of Peter DiSalvo whom has yet to win a career OHL game.

Injuries to Rangers' forwards: Peter Tsimikalis and Victor Oreskovich could play a big part in the outcome of the series, though the Rangers' offence is incredibly deep they cannot afford to be without two of their top forwards for a long duration in the postseason.

Both teams have their veteran defensive stars the Rangers have Jakub Kindl while the Sting counter with Ryan Wilson.
