Nick Duff in his first OHL season has proven to have a heart much bigger than your average 170lb player, he doesn't really back down or get intimidated by some of the league's bigger wingers. Going into his second season Nick Duff will have to gain some physical strength which will better enable him to control bodies in and around the crease area. He needs to utilize his quick feet to his advantage. Duff started the season battling with fellow rookie: Matt McCann for the 6th defense spot on the Rangers roster. He ended the season 8th on the depth chart. and like McCann found himself getting the squeeze for ice time. During call-ups Duff would frequently would be paired with McCann or Manias. With at least 3 veteran Rangers' defenders departing in the off season opportunity knocks for Duff who has proven apt at moving the puck and has in minimal chances proven that he does have some offensive upside. That offensive upside could manifest itself itself in powerplay time on the second unit with Eminger and Halkidis graduating. Duff might also find ice time at the forward position, where his speed could be best exploited, should the Rangers acquire some defensive help. |
