Despite showing some very apt offensive potential, Fergus didn't exactly explode on the scene during his rookie season. He displayed some play making abilities, but much like Anthony Pototschnik he was returned to Jr. B hockey. Fergus didn't seem to be able to find his scoring niche in Kitchener, but looked much better adjusted once he returned to the Rangers after an extended stint with the Winterhawks in Cambridge where was was amongst the team leaders in points. Unfortunately Fergus will be entering his sophomore season with a rather large monkey on his back, through all of his appearances with the Rangers over the course of two seasons Fergus has yet to score a goal, the biggest curiousity is how he has also avoided the sin bin during all of his ice time in that timespan. As he has gained more experience with the Rangers, Fergus found himself playing the point on the powerplay for the Rangers. The point, is a dangerous place for a rookie forward, but Fergus faired well there, and seemed to learn well from Andre Benoit, acting like a protege, picking up some of Benoit's infamous wrist shot. Looking into next season as a sophomore Fergus needs to play with more of a edge in order to be successful, and obviously needs to develop some confidence around the opponent's net.
