Gravelding another US product from upstate New York is also the smallest Rangers' player, but he does not play at all like a small or fragile player when on the ice. He actually takes the body during most opportunities and plays with a little edge at times, and simply and perhaps surprisingly will never back down. Gravelding is projected to have a big offensive upside which the Rangers hope to exploit in the not too distant future. Finding talented defenders who can move the puck was a challenge during the 2003-'04 season and projects to be a problem going into the 2004-'05 campaign as well with a Rangers defense which is still undergoing a massive youth movement something that Gravelding along with fellow 1985 birth's: Matt Pepe and Devereaux Heshmatpour figure to play a big role in. During the postseason Gravelding earned some time on the Rangers' number 2 powerplay unit at the point, where he has shown poise during his limited experience in the offensive zone. Should Andre Benoit not return for a 5th and overage season with the Kitchener Rangers, Chris Gravelding will have an excellent opportunity to take one of the starting powerplay pivot positions something that the Rangers would require to compliment: Matt Lashoff who's name might already be pencilled in at that position at this point.
