Craig Voakes does appear to have some of the smooth moves that could turn him into one of the OHL's top scorers at some point during his junior career. The biggest drawback with Voakes would be his physical play, his forte seems to be playing in the open ice and as with many of the other promising younger forwards, even a marginal amount of strength improvements would do wonders for the winger going into his third OHL season. Strength should not be confused with conditioning. Voakes has proven durable over his first two OHL seasons, only missing 7 games in total and even playing the entire 68-game schedule in 2003-'04 that schedule was split between the Wolves and the Rangers. One of the reasons that Sudbury was willing to sacrifice Voakes in the trade with the Rangers is because they were seeking tried and proven playoff experience Martynowski's Memorial Cup experience with the Rangers is especially valuable to the Wolves who failed to qualify for the 2003 postseason. Voakes during his only five games of postseason experience only has one assist in his playoff career. Craig knows how to put the puck in the net, he has already scored a total of 27 goals in his still young career and the best is still ahead for him. With the Rangers looking forward to the graduation of their top two goal scoring wingers: Petr Kanko and Nathan O'Nabigon, Voakes will be looked upon to replace some of that scoring on the wings. Voakes' name will be lumped in with a number of 18 year olds that will be hopping to make their mark in 2004-'05 and will have to fight for ice time just as hard as he did as an OHL sophomore.
