Matt Lashoff's forte has to be his work in the offensive zone. Matt Lashoff often seen complementing: Andre Benoit on the point for the powerplay, has a very similar wrist shot to the OHL leader amongst OHL defenders in scoring. Given another year or two to develop, Matt Lashoff is capable of leading all OHL defenders as Andre Benoit has through the past two OHL seasons. Lashoff benefits from a very deceptive release point on his shot. Matt Lashoff is lost between hulking defenders, such as Boris Valabik and Deveraux Heshmatpour, but standing at 6'2" Lashoff is no slouch physically, he doesn't go out looking for physical activity but at the same time does not shy away from it. During Lashoff's first game in Kitchener Matt Lashoff was 2nd star after a 4 point performance, all assists in a a crushing 10-4 defeat of the Plymouth Whalers during their first visit to the Memorial Auditorium since falling in dramatic fashion in the 7th game of the 2003 Conference finals. The price to pay for the services of such a highly touted defender was not cheap. The Rangers had to send the Greyhounds consecutive 3rd round draft picks (one contingent on Lashoff's signing with the Kitchener Rangers), and also had to cough up a veteran defender: Matt Manias in the deal. Matt Lashoff though a rookie, plays more like a 2nd or third year defender, especially with some of the ice time that he logs, often seen playing with Andre Benoit on the powerplay, he is also seen playing opposite to Thomas Harrison and Alex MacDonell. r |
