Mike Chmielewski played his bantam hockey in his hometown of St. Catherines and was a 10th round selection of the Kitchener Rangers. Chmielewski is the second of consecutive 10th rounders to have made the Rangers after Paul McFarland made the team as a 10th round selection a year earlier. Chmielewski's weight and skating have been rumoured to be keeping him back, but his primary assest appear to be his touch infront of the opponents' goal. Chmielewski has been seen on the Rangers' powerplay on occasion and if all works out as it should Chmielewski should be a fixture infront of the opponents net on the Rangers' man advantage in the next couple of seasons. Until then Chmielewski is doing the best he can with the limited role that he plays on the team. Defensively he holds to his point well and keeps things extremely simple. His game will improve drastically if his develops more nibble feet, at the current time he has average speed in pursuit of the puck but isn't overly efficient at rounding the corners. Chmielewski has spent most of his time on the wing this season with fellow rookie: Peter Franchin centering his line. His strongest game of his rookie season with the Rangers was early in the season when the Rangers met up with the Toronto Majors at the St. Michael's Arena in Toronto. Chmielewski was paired together with a fireplug bantam callup: Mike Duco and the two combined for a powerplay goal as well as lots of other havoc around the Toronto Majors' net during a Rangers' road loss.
